Vitamin C is actually helpful for your skin

Comment

Vitamin C can be helpful for your skin to brightening and firm the skin, protect it from the sun and environmental damage, diminish dark spots, and even reduce the signs of aging, claims dermatologists.

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin found in fruits and vegetables naturally. It is also available as a dietary supplement and in topical skincare products such as cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens, and most efficiently in serums, being the staple skincare product when you want to indulge in a vitamin C skincare routine.

All of its various benefits make it a top recommendation for most dermatologists,” said a dermatologist in Michigan.

Research says that when vitamin C penetrates the skin, it protects and improves it in various ways.

It’s an antioxidant, that can neutralize damaging molecules called free radicals and dead and damaged skin barrier, which “accelerate signs of aging.”

Vitamin C can also stimulate the skin’s production of collagen, a protein that increases skin firmness and elasticity and helps keep it plump and hydrated. Because of this, using a powerful and stable vitamin C serum consistently over time can help smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Finally, vitamin C can brighten dark spots because it inhibits an enzyme called tyrosinase that causes skin discoloration. Although there has been little research on how effectively vitamin C does this, one small study published in 1996 found that vitamin C reduced the appearance of dark skin patches or age-related freckles in 19 out of 34 people who used it.
