Kamala Harris raised about $55 million in high-dollar events in California this weekend, according to an official who is familiar with the matter, an effort that has padded her financial advantage over Republican rival Donald Trump.
Sunday, at the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles, the fundraiser took in about $28 million, and another one raised about $27 million, Saturday at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, according to the official, who requested obscurity to discuss this very important private matter.
The Los Angeles event performances were featured by Alanis Morissette and Halle Bailey. Celebrities such as Sterling K. Brown, Demi Lovato, and Stevie Wonder attended the event, as well as moguls such as Jeffrey Katzenberg, who is co-chair of the Harris campaign.
Harris urged the guests to activate their networks to help her win the November election, as the guests were served with appetizers like samosas and mini lobster rolls at the event.
“This race is as close as it could be,” she told them. “We are the underdogs.”
Both Harris and Trump are tapping California’s tremendous donor base with the election that is hardly now just weeks away. The former president, Donald Trump, attended a Silicon Valley fundraiser earlier in September.
Harris began September with $404 million in the bank, compared to $295 million for Trump, according to the latest disclosures to the Federal Election Commission. The Harris campaign spent an average of $7.5 million a day in August, compared with a $2.6 million daily average for Trump.
