Camila Cabello Referenced an Iconic Selena Gomez Movie in a Daring Look For Paris Fashion Week;
There’s nothing random and common about Camila Cabello’s Paris Fashion Week statement piece.
On September 27, the “Liar” singer was photographed in the front row. Her outfit at the Vetements’ latest runway show wearing a lacy gloved bodysuit. Matching it was a black bra with a sporty black miniskirt, topping everything off with a massive black coat.
The show’s real star was the black Vetements ski mask featuring a pair of dangling diamond earrings. The mask didn’t stop fans in Paris from recognizing their star. Rather, the mask gave her the “dark feminine energy” she was probably going for.
While Vetements is known for conversation-starting runway moments, Camilla Cabello and fashion stylist Katie Qian had a specific vision for the front-row look. The ski mask was an obvious reference to Cabello’s latest album C, XOXO, which is a direct inspiration from Spring Breakers, the 2013 neon-soaked party girl classic starring Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine, Ashley Benson, and Cabello’s close friend Selena Gomez.
In an album trailer released in May, the 27-year-old pop star stakes her claim over Miami Beach with her own “girl gang” dressed in neon swimwear and a pink ski mask. “We had a lot of visual inspiration from Spring Breakers,” Cabello said.
During the C, XOXO promotions, Cabello revealed she included photos from Spring Breakers on a Pinterest board during the songwriting process. “I was taking pictures of this kind of girl gang energy like the Spring Breakers girls which is very empowering and kind of dangerous,” Cabello said. “Like tapping into that kind of dangerous side of yourself.”
